By establishing a strong men’s team, we aim to create more opportunities for our young players.
Short-term plan: We have a men’s football team competing in the Liverpool County Premier League, Division 1 and 2nd & 3rd Teams playing in Liverpool Old Boys league. We are actively seeking players and individuals to join this part of our club to strengthen existing squads. Our goal is to develop a well-established and competitive team that can swiftly progress from Division 1 to the Premier League Division (Step 7). We already have a talented core group of players whom we aim to improve further.
We have a complete club structure in place to manage essential aspects such as kit, pitches, training facilities, equipment, and match fees.
Medium-term plan: Once our team reaches the Premier Division, we will apply for our Under 17 and Under 18 Youth teams to participate in the North West Youth Alliance League. This league provides a challenging environment as our youth players face semi-professional, non-league, and Step 7 amateur clubs. It is crucial for their development to find such competitive opportunities, especially when they may not be physically mature enough to play in men’s football at their age.
These players, when ready for men’s football or once they outgrow the Under 18 category, will form a talent pool from which the men’s 1st team or potentially a reserve team can draw. A constant influx of players at the required level will ensure the continued competitiveness of the 1st team.
Our aim is to provide a clear pathway for our young players, so when they leave school, they have the opportunity to continue playing at our club. We want to prevent losing players to other clubs due to our club’s limitations in applying for more competitive leagues.
Long-term plan: Our ultimate ambition is for the team and players to progress to Step 6 football, joining other reputable clubs in the city at a non-league level. It is our belief that an increase in well-established non-league clubs will benefit non-league football as a whole, raising standards, creating competition, and generating interest across all clubs at that level.
Ideally, our 1st team’s match-day squad will consist of a significant percentage (ideally 100%) of players who have represented our club since their junior age groups. This organic pathway encourages our junior players to progress through the age groups with the aspiration of representing the club at a non-league level. We will also establish additional men’s teams, including reserves and potentially a third team, to ensure the current junior section seamlessly transitions into open-age football.
