What is the River Development League (RDL)?
The RDL provides a weekly opportunity for players aged U5 to U13 to participate in matches and training, aiming to develop their confidence, game understanding, experience of team football, and most importantly, their enjoyment of the game in a positive environment.
Why was the RDL created?
The RDL is aimed at players who have yet to experience team football, have had previous negative experiences or are looking to gain confidence and not ready for the sometimes harsher environment of grassroots which in some cases, the environment can have a negative influence such as shouting, arguing, swearing, fighting and results-driven strategies.
As all RDL players are part of our club, we ensure that players and parents align with our development-focused philosophy. The RDL provides a positive bubble that our club runs, controls and oversees to get kids playing and enjoying football.
What ages can play?
The aim is to accommodate as many ages as there is demand. For our Under 5 and Under 6 players, RDL provides an opportunity to experience matches before joining local leagues. For U7 and older players, RDL will be about finding the right ability level for your child to maximise development potential and enjoyment.
Is there opportunity to move in to River Juniors teams in the local leagues?
Yes the purpose of the RDL is it’s a stepping stone towards playing in the local grassroots leagues against other teams and clubs, individuals will be selected on suitability. Ultimately football is an opportunity to play, learn, be active and socialise and as a club we believe as long as that happens it doesn’t matter if its RDL or otherwise.
Is there training also?
Yes, and it is an expectation to train. Training will be provided on a Monday at Archbishop Beck High School, Long Lane, L9 7BF.
When and where are games?
All games will be midweek. Games to be on a Tuesday or Thursday depending on demand and age at Archbishop Beck High School, Long Lane, L9 7BF.
